2 SARs + 9 Cities
Greater Bay Area (GBA) comprise of two Special Administrative Regions + nine cities in adjoining Guangdong province.
Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongsan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing.
Population, GDP & GDP per capita
2019: GBA has population of 72m+ , GDP: of US$1,679.5 billion and GDP per capita of US$23,371.
2019: ASEAN has population of 655m+, GDP of US$3,166 billion and GDP per capita of US$4,819.
GBA's population & GDP are smaller than ASEAN, but GDP per capita is almost 5X of ASEAN.

China has earmarked 12 policy areas for development in GBA.

Hong Kong's Role in GBA
China has designated 4 core cities to be the "core engine foe regional development" for GBA by leveraging on their respective "comparative advantages", and these are Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Hong Kong has a number of comparative advantages, but one of it's single strongest value-add is to serve as the gateway between GBA and the rest of the world.
